The Indo-Canadian Voice
The Indo-Canadian Voice newspaper was begun seventeen years ago to reflect the aspirations of the Indo-Canadian community. The newspaper is published weekly, on Saturdays, and is also available on-line, and thusly assessable to a broad readership. The newspaper covers local and provincial news, provides special interest reports, lists current events around town, and offers movie reviews and classified listings. An aim of the newspaper is to help counteract the racism and prejudice experienced by the Indo-Canadian community, a problem that is common amongst many immigrant groups. The newspaper fearlessly confronts issues within the community, whether they are related to gang-violence or issues such as domestic violence. Those writing for the newspaper are seen as leaders in the community and play a great role in the understanding of the issues that impact the Indo-Canadian community and in the dissemination of information to the community.
